Manners and the Dance World
A man hit me on the back of the arm. I thought, "Oh my! Is there a spider on my arm?" When I turned to say, "What's the matter?" he indicated he was inviting me to dance. Unfortunately for him, depending on how you see it, we were at a public dance specifically to dance with Universal dancers. If he had approached me from the front and said, "Hello, I'm John. Would you do this foxtrot with me?" I would have had to say yes. Does it matter? Or as a famous person said, "At this point, what difference does it make?" It makes a difference. That's the point of choosing a recreational activity like ballroom dancing--it's SOCIAL and requires some semblance of manners.
Universal youth & juniors, both ladies and gentlemen, and the Sacred Heart 4th & 5th graders are required to know how to invite a person to dance. They are also required to remember NOT to leave a partner on the dance floor and just walk away.
Good manners make us all feel confident because we want to do the right thing, sometimes we just don't know what to do.
