LARGESTJunior Ballroom and Latin DanceSport Program
Above is the video from May 21, 2017 performance of our Youth Dept. at USA Dance Chapter 3012's weekly social dance party.
It's the first public performance of the Viennese waltz prepared for the June 2, 2017, Paris in Springtime showcase. What's important here? 1 ALL the children are included and the choreography plan is considering all of their abilities. 2 There is mixing of partners. 3 There is an expectation of effort to understand each dancer's role relative to the whole. 4 The repertoire of group dances alters the 'featured' dancers so everyone has an opportunity. |
Why should children dance?
It’s obvious. First of all, it is just FUN to dance. Secondly, it’s just so good for children to experience working in a ‘team’ situation with a partner. Each partner has a role, but their responsibility goes beyond their personal role to be interdependent and supportive of the other partner’s role. Dancing keeps children on their feet and gives them a positive outlet for their energy, competitiveness and desires to learn new things. In our school, young people progress through grades, learn to move, learn how to describe what they are doing, learn how to be cordial, learn competition protocol. We also spend some time on the historical and musical origins of the standardized dances. Movement elements we address in classes include leg actions, foot placement, body carriage, use of the arms, physical connection and communication, musical and rhythmic expression, coordination, balance. These are all things that keep dancers aware of and in touch with their bodies. We have regular graded classes, weekly competition style rounds, technical drill classes, private lessons for dancers with partners, regular medal testing, competition participation and dance demonstrations. Dancing makes a child experience developing skills in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. It helps them to develop confidence in their abilities and achievements. One of the things parents talk about in our school that has to do with their choice of ballroom dancing as their children's main extra-curricular activity is manners. Join Ballroom Dance Parents Group! http://www.facebook.com/groups/ballroomdanceparents
This is a group that is intended to provide a place where we can ask questions, share experiences, and at times frustrations with this addicting and exciting world of ballroom dance. We not only have parents in our group, but dancers, studio representatives, teachers, judges and competition organizers. The group is maintained by Junior Athlete DanceSport Association (JADA).
